“The debate after DSUK’s Real People Catwalk Show was very very interesting. Such spiritedness! Feels a lot like this is just the beginning of the conversation”.

With the world’s economy falling on hard times, here at DSUK we believe that it’s fundamental for our lovely customers to get the most out of what they spend. As we face the world’s longest post-war recession, maybe it’s time we look back at the 1930′s to see how fashionistas back then kept themselves looking fabulous; with Lalita’s stunning range of infinitely stylish pieces on offer that 1930′s charm can easily be awoken here at DSUK. As the Great Depression loomed fashion took on a more conservative approach, skirts became longer and waistlines became higher in order to achieve that more elegantly feminine look.

However no fear! It’s not all doom and gloom, with Lalita having a dedicated approach to carefully sourcing their items to find a unique and exquisite range of vintage pieces, it means you will not be short of bagging yourself that one-off item totally worth all your hard earned money. They offer a delightful choice of Italian leather purses from the likes of Harvey Nichols, adorable handbags from designers such as Balenciaga, some absolutely beautiful silk scarves and an eclectic range of clothing from elegant evening dresses to sophisticated dinner jackets plus much more to help you find that winning investment piece to last you a lifetime!

Plus, with Dior’s recently released J’adore short film and its use of C.G.I to feature some of the greatest icons of fashion such as Grace Kelly, Marlene Dietrich and Marilyn Monroe there has begun a great revival of that vintage Hollywood glamour. So why not pop along to our next sale on 21/10/2011 at The Music Rooms, Mayfair and pay Lalita a little visit so that you can try mixing vintage charm with modern day looks to pull off contemporary sophistication- by combining the conservative yet chic trends of the 1930′s with modern day styles it will achieve a timeless look that can only be done by splashing your cash on specially sourced items that no one else will have!

A big hello to all of our fabulous over-seas customers!

On our  brilliant holiday spent in Hong Kong over the Summer, being the fashionistas that we are we couldn’t resist a little look at the shopping malls and were delighted to see that many stores held some of the same favourite labels we sell at DSUK! With the likes of Vivienne Westwood, Y-3 and Viktor & Rolf all being packed out stores, what delighted us here at DSUK even more was how cheap our prices are in comparison. So if you fancy a little holiday and bagging yourself an absolute bargain, then get yourself along to one of our fantastic sales and surprise yourselves with our remarkable prices!

With the likes of mad men’s January Jones and Christina Hendricks, making vintage look so effortlessly glamourous, it’s no surprise that lady like retro trends are big this Autumn. So if you want to re-create such classic and refined looks for yourself this season then DSUK’s vintage boutique, Lalita have the perfect selection of unique items for you to come and buy!

They recently featured an adorable donation of vintage pieces to the Love Cupboard at this Summer’s V festival, with the likes of Daisy Lowe and DJ Optic taking a keen interest in some of the beautiful bits of clothing they had on display! Here at DSUK, we particularly love their range of vintage Jacqmar scarves! So this autumn why not keep yourselves just that bit warmer and even more fabulous with an exclusive item that no one else on the street will have!

Not only do we adore Lalita’s  collection of scarves, but they will also be selling a gorgeous selection of vintage leather handbags, some of which have been sourced from circa 1950, making Joan Holloway’s seductively lady like style even more accessible to you retro lovers this Autumn! Lalita also holds a wonderful choice of belts, purses, broaches and mens accessories such as ties and wallets, to complete that vintage charm!

One of our most frequented designer labels featured at DSUK; Viktor and Rolf create some of the most simply stunning pieces and are famed for their concept driven catwalk shows.

Both Viktor Horsting and Rolf Snoeren were born in Amsterdam in 1969, and their journey together within the fashion industry began when they met at the Arnhem Academy of Art and Design. Upon graduation in 1993, they relocated to Paris and this would be the same year that propelled them into the world of fashion when they began assisting in the studios of Martin Margiela and Jean Collona.

In 2005, the pair  decided to team up with L’Oreal to launch their first fragrance ‘flowerbomb’ being L’Oreal’s first collaboration with a fashion designer in seventeen years; the launch of ‘flowerbomb’ coincided with their Spring/Summer 2005 collection that held the same title as the perfume.

Viktor & Rolf have also collaborated with Swarovski to release a jewellery line in 2009 and they also designed a special collection for high-street brand H&M in November 2006.

A common theme that runs throughout many of Viktor and Rolf’s collections and catwalk shows is the pointed creation of clothes which must conceal and not expose. One of their most famous catwalk shows that is exemplary of this theme is ‘The Russian doll‘;  the designer’s dressed model Maggie Rizer in layers of jewel encrusted dresses as she rotated upon a moving podium.

Viktor & Rolf create worlds of fashion for people to escape into, their concept driven catwalk shows enable those watching to immerse themselves into a magical world of beautifully designed haute couture pieces. We adore their imaginative and clever energy that reflects itself in the fabulous designs that they produce.

The V&A is well known for putting on some of the best art and design exhibitions in London and we’re pretty sure their new exhibition on Postmodernism will be a definite must visit when in London.

Postmodernism was a reaction against early modernist principles. It was visually thrilling, a multifaceted style that ranged from the colourful to the ruinous, the ludicrous to the luxurious.

The exhibition opens on the 24th September and runs until the 15th January so you’ve got lots of time to visit. But why not visit the exhibition when you’re in Chelsea for our next sale on the 30th September and 1st October.

If you’re really into Postmodernism then the V&A is hosting a Postmodern Weekend giving you the opportunity to immerse yourself in postmodern excess. This takes places on the 28th and 29th of October.
