Fiery Fashion!
Posted by: | CommentsAfter my jaw dropped last week at the beautiful Emma Stone on the red carpet in her beautiful plum Lanvin dress at the Golden Globes, it got me thinking (as a natural redhead myself) about the wonderful world of redheads in fashion. I’ve noticed that these days more and more women seem to be turning to the bottle for a fix of the fiery hair colour, and i love it! Be it bright red, purply red or a proper auburn (ginger) Im loving the celebration of this hair colour. As to be honest with you, for a long time it was and still can be perceived as something similar to being disease ridden here in the UK (now thats obviously a little bit melodramatic, but i think you guys get what Im saying!) Throughout much of my younger years, I spent a lot of the time being embarrassed about my hair colour and teased for it and was often on the receiving end of chants such as “get back in your biscuit tin, ginger, ginger” and “knock knock, carrot top” on a daily basis; which now that I look back on, I can say with ease that I find these chants amusing, as I’ve always had a pretty decent sense of humour about the response that my hair colour gets. However, that sense of humour has only got stronger due to me growing up and learning that red hair is something to love and I’ve also learnt that actually, more people love it than they do hate it. So with this in mind, I wanted to take the chance to have a look at & celebrate some of the truly gorgeous women that I think, really make redheads rocking! Although… can you guess whose real and whose fake?

An all time favourite faker of mine has got to be Julia Roberts, for years I thought that those coppery locks were au natural and was quite surprised when I found out they weren’t . Yet, however fake her fro may be, she’s a wonderful actress and even better, she looks great with red hair! Another actress whose famed for fakery is the gorgeous and marvellously curvaceous Christina Hendricks who is a firm of mine. As a huge fan of the television series Mad Men and all things vintage, it’ll be no surprise that she’s on my list of fierce females, due to her elegant style and the way in which she pulls of false colour.

Now a favourite true redhead of mine, who planted herself firmly in the world of fashion and in my opinion made redheads ‘cool’ again in the nineties is the stunning, Karen Elson. With an edgy yet feminine style, Karen is a fashionable and fiery icon of mine, I just simply love her look! Another ultimate redhead who has undeniably been a fearless force within the world of fashion is the wonderful Vivienne Westwood, not only do I love her designs and work but I also love the fact that she too, enjoys being a strawberry blonde beauty!

So there you have it just some of my most adored redheads in the fashion world, yet these are only a few of my most loved fiery haired maidens, I could simply go on forever. So to stop myself from overloading you guys with redhead mania, I’ll just add a few more names to the list of whom I think we should all take a little inspiration from, be it the hair colour, the style or the statement; Florence Welch, Amy Adams, Isla Fisher, Julianne Moore, Marcia Cross and somewhat controversially David Bowie (I know, I know, he’s not a woman, but still gotta love him!) have all proven that redheads really do have more fun!

Yet worry not, lovely DSUK customers as we have a few tips on how to style up some of the great stock we’ll be bringing to you this March!
Idea 1 -

Sophia Kokosalaki silk blouse
This gorgeous electric blue blouse from Sophia Kokosalaki is reminiscent of the fabulously bright blues that were popularly worn during the 1950s. Therefore, at DSUK we reckon that this blouse would look great paired up with a high waisted black pencil skirt. A thick black waist belt (we suggest that if you can find a lovely vintage one with a gold buckle, buy it! as it would match up beautifully). To continue with the 1950′s look add a simple black scarf that can be tied round your head and to really finish off the funky fifties style add a cute little satchel bag and some stilettos of your choice. Plus, if you fancy adding to this adorable look even more, go for some luscious curls in your hair and paint on that red lipstick girls!
Idea 2

Margiela, grey wool knit.
This great grey, woolen knit dress from Martin Margiela has many wonderful ways in which you style queens out there could wear it. However, here at DSUK one of our favourite ways to wear this great piece is to dress it up; we suggest that you add some gold statement, chain necklaces paired up with some gold bangles to add a bit of sparkle. Team the dress up with a pair of black leggings/tights or some great floral statement tights to really take the outfit up a gear. Then throw on a tailored black blazer/jacket, some killer heels and make like the fabulous Edie Sedgwick with smoky eyes and think black eyeliner with nude lips to really pull this look together.
Idea 3 -

Kokosalaki knitted dress
At DSUK we think that this lovely knit from Kokoslaki just oozes sophistication, and despite this being a beautiful piece from Kokosalaki, we think that if accessorized right you lovely DSUK customers will look like you’ve just stepped out of a Chanel photo shoot. Wear this dress with black tights, black bow pumps, a long pearl necklace and some pearl bracelets with a quilted chain bag. Then to really finish off the Chanel look add a black ribbon to your hair, nude eye make-up with a little eyeliner and rouged lips to really showcase your femininity and style. With a look like this we can guarantee that men will be falling at their feet everywhere you go!

Winter accessorising!
Posted by: | CommentsNow that December has whizzed by in a flurry of, relaxing days on the sofa, over eating, seasonal parties and most importantly those sexy seasonal party outfits, the time has still not come for this winter’s sharp mornings and crisp nights to be done with us yet! And Im sure like us here at DSUK you style queens out there are wanting to make sure that despite the winter weather, you stay looking fabulously fashionable with the season’s hottest looks. One way in which us here at DSUK love to make our winter outfits more exciting is by matching them with the perfect winter accessories!

Great fedora from Gucci
Now a sensible girl knows that its important to keep your heads warm in the winter and it just happens to be a blessing that hats in all different shapes and styles are a big trend this Autumn/Winter! With nostalgia big on the catwalks for this season’s trends its no surprise that hats such as fedoras to add some of that 70s glam, and berets to show some sixties style are big for accessorizing your winter wardrobes!

This season's berets from Burberry
Not only are gorgeous hats great for accessorizing your heads this season, but knitted headbands and ear muffs are also another great and fun way of adding a bit of warmth to your outfits on a cold day. To really add to the strong sense of nostalgia that ran through the catwalks earlier in 2011, at DSUK we love a good old vintage looking cable knit and what better way to accessorize yourselves beautifully than with a cable knit headband, teamed up with a matching or complementary set of ear muffs! So go on girls accessorise, accessorise, accessorise! You can guarantee you’ll be kept warm and looking fabulous!

How to save money on Designer clothes!
Posted by: | CommentsHere at DSUK we know how important it is to you stylish ladies out there to keep yourselves looking gorgeous yet at the are able to keep on pinching those pennies. So for you fabulous fashionistas, here are a few tips from DSUK on how to save money on Designer clothes.
You could start your bargain hunt to beauty on common online auction sites such as e-bay, not only does it give you the chance to set your own prices and have the chance of bagging new clothes at cheaper prices but you can also shop from home with a cup of tea in hand and take your time. However, it can be rare to find great designer pieces on websites such as e-bay and if you’re a shopper who would rather try before you buy, then samples sales are more the place for you.
It’s always a good idea to do your research on the sample sale you’re planning on going to as it gives you the chance to prepare yourself on what you’re willing and not willing to spend. First of all, find out the kinds of designers the sample sale will have, whether it be Vivienne Westwood, Martin Margiela or Gucci you must make sure that there will be designers available whose work you’re a fan of. Next bit of research is to find out how big the company’s discounts are and to which labels the greatest markdowns apply. Once you’ve got all this information it gives you the chance to be aware of the budget you wish to set yourself, time to save in advance and best of all means you can purchase designer items without breaking the bank balance.
A few final tips on keeping the purse strings tight but the wardrobe doors wide open; once you’ve wondered around and found yourself some beautiful designer pieces that you feel you just can’t be without make sure you try on! Don’t go rushing straight to the till with your beautiful pieces of clothing, instead head straight to the changing rooms as they may not always look as beautiful on! Before you invest in a luxury piece of clothing you will want to make sure that the quality is what you expect and that what you’ll be wearing is both comfy and fits beautifully. This will make sure that your buy to wear ratio is pretty even and you aren’t left feeling guilty about that designer splurge!
Hope these idea help you Queens of fashion to find yourselves some great clothes at even greater prices!

Postmodernism. Style and Subversion 1970-1990.
Posted by: | CommentsThe V&A is well known for putting on some of the best art and design exhibitions in London and we’re pretty sure their new exhibition on Postmodernism will be a definite must visit when in London.
Postmodernism was a reaction against early modernist principles. It was visually thrilling, a multifaceted style that ranged from the colourful to the ruinous, the ludicrous to the luxurious.

ID no. 28 the art issue 1985

Grace Jones in a maternity dress designer by Jean-Paul Goude and Antonio Lopez 1979
The exhibition opens on the 24th September and runs until the 15th January so you’ve got lots of time to visit. But why not visit the exhibition when you’re in Chelsea for our next sale on the 30th September and 1st October.
If you’re really into Postmodernism then the V&A is hosting a Postmodern Weekend giving you the opportunity to immerse yourself in postmodern excess. This takes places on the 28th and 29th of October.
