Postmodernism. Style and Subversion 1970-1990.
Posted by: | CommentsThe V&A is well known for putting on some of the best art and design exhibitions in London and we’re pretty sure their new exhibition on Postmodernism will be a definite must visit when in London.
Postmodernism was a reaction against early modernist principles. It was visually thrilling, a multifaceted style that ranged from the colourful to the ruinous, the ludicrous to the luxurious.

ID no. 28 the art issue 1985

Grace Jones in a maternity dress designer by Jean-Paul Goude and Antonio Lopez 1979
The exhibition opens on the 24th September and runs until the 15th January so you’ve got lots of time to visit. But why not visit the exhibition when you’re in Chelsea for our next sale on the 30th September and 1st October.
If you’re really into Postmodernism then the V&A is hosting a Postmodern Weekend giving you the opportunity to immerse yourself in postmodern excess. This takes places on the 28th and 29th of October.

During the late 50’s, 60’s and 70’s Duffy produced an extraordinary body of work spanning all of the photographic genres from portraits to advertising.

The coming together of Art and Science
Posted by: | CommentsAt DSUK we’ve been keeping an eye out for interesting exhibitions to visit this summer and we think GV Art’s exhibition Art and Science is definitely one we’ll be stopping by. GV Art gallery celebrates collaborations between artists and scientist by putting on some great exhibitions and discussions.
These days the term ‘art and science’ is on everyone’s lips – but no one quite knows what it is or where it is going. Does it mark the rise of a new culture in which science and technology will be the driving forces and will even perhaps determine the future of culture? Are there similarities in the creative processes of artists and scientists? Can science benefit from art? And can considering these questions bring us any closer to understanding creativity? This exhibition is a step towards exploring these key issues of the 21st century.
This exhibition will have a variety of designers on display, we’ve picked out a couple of artist to give you a flavour of the work;

Susan Aldworth

Andrew Carnie

Annie Cattrell
Obviously lots more great artists work will be on display.
GV Art Gallery can be found at,
49 Chiltern Street
Marylebone
London
W1U 6LY
The exhibition will be open until 24th September 2011.

Brighton Pride!!!
Posted by: | CommentsWell its come around again one of the best events in Brighton… Pride!!! At DSUK we’re expecting it to be bigger and better than ever, if you’re around Brighton over the next couple days or even if you’re not and fancy an amazing day out make sure you check it out!!
As per usual there are loads of events taking place across the city but our favourite part has to be the parade; it really is amazing to see the amount of work that goes in to the floats and costumes. There’s always a great buzz and atmosphere surrounding the parade and other events.

The Main Park event in Preston Park will be ticketed for the first time this year but remember Pride is a registered charity and your money will be going to a great cause. The Parade of course remains free to watch.
This event really is a great day out check out the Pride website for full event listings for the next couple days.
